Zimbabwe warriors out of 2010 AFCON/WORLD CUP

The chapter has been closed. We are going to watch football for both 2010 AFCON hosted by Angola and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Its a pity that the warriors have failed to qualify for these money spining cups, both played in SADC.

It is due to maladminstration by soccer administrators who hails from 53 livingstone, Harare and calls themselves ZIFA bosses.

I propose that the mother body should be fired and those who have football background get the chance to run the body. We have the Chidzambwas, Moses Chunga, Stix Mtizwa, or even peter Ndlovu, just to name a few. They have a passion for the development of Zimbabwean football and as such they. Why dont we give them a chance?

What do you think went wrong with our football? Is it the adminstration? Is it the players’ incompitence? Or some other reason.

Xenophobia threatens 2010 dreams

Lets stop xenophobia and crime in South Africa or else we risk the golden chance of a World cup played in an African soil. We cant let the Wolrd’s most beatiful sport disturbed by these negative developments. South Africans have dveloped an irrational hatred towards the foreigners whom they believe take away their jobs, and resorted to attack them which has led to injuries and deaths. This has raised international condemnation. The crime rate in South Africa is also at an increase with a sizeable number people being killed every day. If crime is not curbed immediately then we may watch helplessly the World Cup being hosted by a non African country. Remember Germany and other countries are waiting for South Africa’s wrong move, then grab the opportunity. Countries which share the borders with South Africa, that is Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia and Lesotho and Swaziland among others, dream to imensely benefit from the 2010 World Cup games hosted by South Africa. Zimbabwe for example boasts of its strategic position and sound tourist atraction cites such as the Victoria Falls and Gonarezhou among others stands a better chance to benefit from these games. Thanks to the South African government and the sports-men and women intervention on the xenophobic attacks on foreigners, otherwise we could have kissed a good-bye to the 2010 World cup dream. But the South African government should curb crime if we are to be guaranteed hosting the world cup in Africa for the fisrt time.

The Zimbabwe Warriors’ failure to the beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya on the 22^nd of June 2008 at Rufaro Stadium blew the chances of qualifying for the World cup for the first time.

Group 2, comprises four teams which Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, and Guinea. Of the four teams, only Guinea has an edge over others in as far as World Cup and Africa Cup of nations qualification is concerned.

The Zimbabwe Warriors’ failure to collect maximum points at home implies that they have to beat Namibia and Guinea and praying that the other results may be on their favor. Otherwise they are out of both competitions.

According to the group 2 standings, Guinea are at the top with 7 points, ahead of Kenya who are second and trail on superior goal difference. The team that tops the group will qualify for the 2010 and the first two will qualify for the Africa cup of nations hosted by Angola.

The million-dollar question is; can Zimbabwe qualify for any or both? What if it doesn’t, does that mean the death of Zimbabwean football? Who then can we blame for the failure?

Zimbabwe has produced the great players such as Shacky Tauro, Peter Ndlovu, Sunday Marimo and Bruce Grobellar among others. The Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League (PSL) comprises sixteen teams which include CAPS UNITED, DYNAMOS, HIGHLANDERS and MASVINGO UNITED among others. Most of these teams engage in junior policy, in which the juniors (from Under 11) are groomed to the senior team. CAPS UNITED and LANCSHIRE STEEL have a vibrant junior policy. The local league is laden with promising players such as Tafadzwa Rusike (Caps United), Chikwaikwai (Njube Sundowns), Edward Sadomba(Dynamos). These players show potential and can fit well in the Warriors team. They are young, which makes them likely to feature in the 2010 dream team. Who knows the Fabisch calibre of dream team may resurrect talent is nurtured. Most of the players who are the current warriors play their football in South Africa. Zimbabwean football is run by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

Benjani Mwaruwari, who is in his early thirties, is the current Valinhos coached team captain and Manchester City striker. The responsibility to lead Zimbabwean warriors to their first appearance in the World cup finals, rest on this forceful striker. Since Zimbabwe is schedulled to host some of the teams, it will be an icing on the for if the team qualify for the 2010 games. Some Zimbabwean fans would like to compare him to Peter Ndlovu.I think Benji is yet to break the record which Peter set, though he plays for English Premier Soccer League. He may be available for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He is the one of the current great football players. His national team has been knocked out of the Euro 2008 by the Ballack inspired Germany. The question which boggles the minds of Man U fans is that, Is Ronaldo going to stay at Old trafford for the next season or he will cosider moving to Spain’s Real Madrid. All things being equal, he will be available for the 2010 World cup in South Africa.

The once greatest player, Ronaldinho, many believe that given another chance he can be his best again in the World of football. Football faithfuls would like to believe that unless he look for some other clubs, he will remain a pale shadow of himself. He is linked with a move to Italy’s AC Millan. He has age on his side and if he can manage to regain his form, we will see him in South Africa come 2010.

Gilbert Mushangazhike got into the history books by scoring a double on a newly installed Rufaro Stadium artificial turf against Namibia. Plays his football in the South African league. He shows promise to lead Zimbabwe to the 2010 games hosted by South Africa. He is an agressive striker who can be compared to the likes of Carlos Tevez (Man United) and Didier Drogba.
